I’m not going to repeat all those details again. Instead, I’m going to share my journey and experience from the beginning, till passing the CISSP exam on the first attempt.
What is CISSP?
CISSP stands for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional. Best of luck to all of you, as now you have decided to obtain the Gold Standard Certification. The CISSP exam is offered by (ISC) 2 it is going to contain around 250 questions. You will need to book an appointment for the CISSP exam through the (ISC) 2 website where you then redirected to a Pearson Vue website when you are going to register for the exam. The CISSP is going to costs you around $599 USD.
1: Deciding the Certification:
It is very important for you to finalize that which certification you are going to do. Try to do some research for the pros and cons of a certification. Do not just start the preparation for a particular certification only because the entire world is telling you to do so. Instead, you need to look at your work profile, weaknesses, your strengths and most importantly your interest in the field.
I have cleared the SSCP exam which was offered by (ISC) 2 in 2014 and hence naturally the CISSP was the only progression for me. I have been working in this field of information security for the past 5 years with an experience in most of the domains of CISSP.
Once you have decided that you need to go for the CISSP exam, it is very important for you to be focused on your study.
2: Preparation for Exam:
There are lots of books available for preparing the exam. Irrespective of the books, you are going to choose to study; you need to keep 1 book as your primary source of studying. The most important point to focus during this preparation is to make your concepts clear. Do not just learn from the various definitions without having an understanding of the basics of the concept.
Remember you are not going to be tested on your cramming abilities in this exam. The exam is structured in such a way that only your basics and the concepts that are clear will come to your rescue you for a confusing question.
3: Revision & Practice Tests:
Revision, Revision and only revision is the key to clear this examination. If you have been allotted round 8to 9 weeks of study for the CISSP exam, you must spend at least 6 to 7 weeks only on the revision. You need to keep revising, for the CISSP Exam, you might even join the CISSPTOP to ensure your success in achieving the CISSP Certification.
4: Polish yourself:
You should feel confident after solving the questions and reading the concepts. It is perfectly natural for you to solve the questions regarding after we read a particular concept. It is very significant to understand that a question in the CISSP exam is made of multiple concepts from the different domains. Hence doing the mock exam, of 250 question exam which is going to tests will help you to prepare accordingly.
Revise the concepts in which you are still feeling weak at this phase.
5: One day before the exam
All you need to do is to do a quality check, relax and enjoy this day. You have worked hard. I watched the best hilarious movie on this day. It is important that you relax your mind and do not take any stress of any kind for this exam. Now it’s time for you to give the exam. All the very best and God bless.
